
POWER SKATING​
GET AN EXTRA EDGE AND TAKE YOUR GAME TO THE NEXT LEVEL
CanPowerSkate is an action-packed, high-energy, instructional power skating program geared to Hockey and Ringette skaters that focuses on balance, power, agility, speed, and endurance. Skills, techniques, and performance drills are taught in a progressive format by Skate Canada coaches certified through the NCCP in CanPowerSkate. The program emphasizes proper mechanical execution and also utilizing these skills to apply in game situations.
CanPowerSkate is taught in a group environment, therefore all participants should have basic skating ability and should be able to manage the following skills:
- Be able to get up on their own
- Be able to skate forward the length of the ice using alternate strides
- Be able to skate backward the width for the ice using alternate strides
- Be able to stop without hitting the boards
Skates MUST by at least 7 years-of-age and have passed CanSkate Stage 4
CanPowerSkate provides an alternative to figure skating and is an excellent complement for those athletes playing on Hockey or Ringette teams. Its unique skill award program provides incentives and motivation for skaters to continue to achieve. CanPowerSkate is the only nationally regulated power skating program in Canada. It was developed by a team of Hockey, Figure Skating, and Ringette experts to teach the fundamentals of power skating in a progressive and sequential manner.
NHL Tampa Bay Lighting skating coach is former Figure Skating Olympic medalist, Barbara Underhill.
The program will be offered as:
- 1-45-minute session a week or
- 2-45-minute sessions a week
- Lessons will be held on Tuesdays and Fridays
Only Skate Canada Certified NCCP Professional Coaches trained and certified as CanPowerSkate Coaches are qualified to instruct the CanPowerSkate program.

- Hockey Skates
- Gloves
- Stick
- CSA Helmet with Cage
- Full Gear/Equipment is optional
